HollowSun sample Hammond Novachord

70 year-old synth in digital form
HollowSun, sample specialists based in Britain, are currently undertaking a mammoth sampling project: a digital recreation of the Hammond Novachord. The synth in question is 70 years old, and uses ingenious oscillator circuitry that enables all 72 keys to be played at once. The original synth contains 163 valves, thousands of capacitors and miles of wiring, so a sample library will be a much easier way of obtaining its sound than getting a Novachord for the living room. The sound of the Novachord is quite unmistakable, and can be heard in many film soundtracks dating from the 1940s.

A teaser can be viewed at www.hollowsun.com/shop/novachord/trailer, and a blog detailing the development of the samples can be read at blog.hollowsun.com/blog.
