Tracktion present Dawesome MYTH

Generates waveforms from imported samples

Tracktion MYTH software instrument synth sample import

Following on from the success of their Abyss, Kult and Novum instruments, Tracktion have announced the release of another collaboration with synth innovator Dawesome. The company say that MYTH has been designed to provide the joy and inspiration of playing a hardware instrument, and takes a different approach to sound creation than your average soft synth.

Rather than relying on predefined oscillator waveforms, MYTH allows users to drag and drop audio files into its GUI, where they will be re-synthesised into what the instrument refers to as an IRIS. A set of Transformer controls then make it possible to apply variations to the resulting sound — the instrument is still equipped with the likes of envelopes, filters and LFOs, but Tracktion say that users may not feel the need to use them as much as they usually do! The unusual approach is apparently capable of delivering a wide variety of results ranging from “shimmering metallics” to “colourful acoustic resonances” and “glittering grain clouds”.

Tracktion MYTH software instrument synth sample importMYTH creates its base sounds from user-imported samples. The unusual naming convention extends to the instrument’s modulation and effects capabilities, with modules such as ORBIT, GLURP and ATARI PUNK promising to deliver a vast array of interesting sounds. In the spirit of experimentation, the modules can be freely arranged in a pedalboard-style fashion, with the signal simply flowing from left to right, making quick work of auditioning different processing chains with no need to configure any routing. Those with compatible controllers will also be pleased to hear that the instrument boasts full MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) support.

MYTH comes loaded with over 700 presets created by professional sound designers, and is kitted out with a powerful randomisation system that allows users to ‘freeze’ sections to ensure they remain unaffected with each new random change, or even create new patches from a selection of ‘parent’ presets.

Compatibility

MYTH is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and 11, and Macs running macOS 10.13 and above. VST3 and AU plug-in versions are available. Note that no AAX version is provided, so the instrument cannot be used in Pro Tools.

Pricing & Availability

MYTH is available now, and is being offered for an introductory price of $125 (reduced from its full cost of $179) until 5 May 2024. For those wishing to try the instrument out, Tracktion also offer a free, fully functional 90-day trial.
