Convolution reverb plug-in to run on graphics cards

GPU Audio VSL Vienna Symphonic Library MIR Pro 3D convolution reverb graphics card processing

Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) and GPU Audio have announced the launch of Vienna Power House, a new series of plug-ins and instruments that are powered by a computer’s graphics card using GPU Audio’s patented technology. The first plug-in to gain the feature is VSL’s MIR 3D Pro, with more planned to follow.

With the addition of GPU Audio’s processing technology, MIR Pro 3D’s CPU-intensive convolution-based processing can now be offloaded to the host computer’s GPU (graphics processing unit, or graphics card), freeing up system resources and allowing users to benefit from increased performance and greater processing channel counts.

The companies say that the feature is being released as an add-on for MIR Pro 3D — and MIR Pro 3D (24), a more affordable version with a lower channel count — and is the first in a series of plug-ins and virtual instruments that will gain the ability to run on a computer’s GPU. More information about Vienna Power House, and the technology behind it, can be found on the companies’ websites.

"As a composer myself, the name VSL has always met my ears with a certain reverence — from film and game composers that wanted to bring the absolute peak of quality to their final deliveries. Further enabling the VSL platform to elevate users' musical creativity and results, via acceleration on GPUs, is a natural fit for the technology and a personally fulfilling one for me." - Jonathan Rowden, CBDO of GPU Audio

Compatibility

VSL’s MIR Pro 3D is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11, and Macs running macOS 10.14 and above. It is available in VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in formats. GPU Audio’s processing supports Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, as well as Apple Silicon processors’ onboard GPUs.

Pricing & Availability

Vienna Power House is being sold as an add-on for MIR Pro 3D and MIR Pro 3D (24), and is being offered for an introductory price of €145 until 30 November 2023.
