Zoom launch ZPC-1 stereo mic kit

Pencil mics intended for studio, field and live use

Zoom ZPC-1

Zoom have just announced a new stereo microphone kit, called the ZPC-1. The kit comprises two 'pencil' small-diaphragm capacitor microphones, built into solid metal chassis and matched for identical sensitivity at both 100Hz and 1kHz. Zoom are touting their new mics as ideal for stereo capture duties in both studio and field recording scenarios, as well as for use on stage.

The microphones employ 16mm electret capsules, and have a specified frequency response of 40Hz-20kHz (unqualified). Sensitivity is given as -38dB/Pa (±2dB), and they can handle SPLs of up to 134dB for ≤1% THD. Equivalent input noise is quoted at under 12dB A-weighted, and, naturally, they require 48V phantom power to operate, at a modest 3.5mA.

The Zoom ZPC-1 stereo mic kit is priced at £183 (including VAT) in the UK, and in addition to the two microphones, each kit ships with a pair each of foam windscreens, 5/8-inch thread adaptors, microphone clips and carrying pouches. The ZPC-1 is due to go on sale at the end of the Summer.
