New Wireless ME system from Rode

Transmitter and receiver feature built-in mics

Rode Wireless ME digital microphone clip-on microphone system camera interview content creation

Rode have announced the latest addition to their range of wireless microphones in the form of the Wireless ME system. Consisting of a transmitter and receiver that each feature a built-in microphone, the package provides content creators with a quick and easy way to record audio both in front of and behind the camera.

Wireless ME

The Wireless ME utilises Rode’s Series IV 2.4GHz digital transmission, which the company say uses a proprietary codec and 128-bit encryption to ensure near-zero latency performance and deliver crystal-clear, incredibly stable audio whilst boasting best-in-class operation range. Both units supplied with a system are paired out of the box, allowing for a quick and simple setup and instant operation.

In addition to the built-in microphone on the transmitter, the receiver is also equipped with its own microphone to facilitate the capture of two-way interviews, or allow the creation of voiceovers for video content. For those wishing to use their existing microphone, the transmitter is also equipped with an external input. The system can be expanded with a second Wireless ME or Wireless GO II transmitter, enabling users to set up dual-channel recordings or utilise a third microphone input.

Rode’s GainAssist technology is present, helping to maintain a continuous recording level and avoid clipping, and is said to be significantly more advanced than the standard automatic gain features found on cameras and other audio devices, which can often suffer from elevated levels of background noise and ‘gain pumping’.

The overall output level can be adjusted to match the destination recording device, and all of these level features can be controlled from the Rode Central companion app for desktop and mobile platforms. The system is designed to work seamlessly with all cameras, as well as iOS and Android smartphones and both macOS and Windows-based desktop computers.

Rode Capture

Alongside the release of the Wireless ME, Rode have also announced the launch of a new app designed specifically for modern video creators. Rode Capture offers direct in-app control over Rode products such as the Wireless ME, Wireless GO II, VideoMic GO II and more, allowing features to be turned on and off, activating DSP, adjusting audio levels and carrying out advanced configuration.

A wealth of video capture and editing features are also included, providing users with control over their camera’s aspect ratio, resolution, frame rate and zoom settings. a Dual Cam mode is also present, and allows simultaneous recording of a mobile device’s front and rear cameras in either a split screen or picture-in-picture mode, allowing an interviewer and interviewee to be captured using a single device.
