GC Audio have announced that the final version of the Inherit Bank has now arrived. The innovative modular outboard processing system, which was initially previewed in February 2024, is capable of hosting four of the company’s hot-swappable Inherit modules, allowing users to quickly switch between different outboard processing chains.
When the system was first introduced, it consisted of a host unit capable of housing a single cartridge along with a selection of mic preamp cartridges inspired by popular console and standalone designs. Its main selling point was the ability to instantly swap out modules to quickly audition different preamps during tracking, as well as having the technical edge over the 500-series format thanks to the use of more substantial power rails. The company also promised that more cartridges would be added over time, expanding the original preamp module line-up with a range of compressors, equalisers and other processors.
GC Audio have already been showing off the latest iteration of the Inherit Bank at AES 2024, alongside a comprehensive selection of compression, equalisation and harmonic processing cartridges. The system features four cartridge slots, and offers three modes of operation: Multi, Unit and Serial. In Multi mode, each cartridge benefits from its own input and output, providing users with four independent hot-swappable modules — slots can also be linked together for processing stereo material, and the company’s compressor cartridges are equipped with an internal connection that allows for true stereo linking.
Unit mode then configures the device to function as a single channel, with front-panel buttons allowing users to quickly route the incoming signal through any of the four modules. It can be used to audition different preamps during tracking, for example, or to share a single channel of an interface’s I/O between different processors. Finally, Serial mode makes it possible to route the output of each slot to the input of the next in order to create custom channel strips or processing chains.
