Berlin-based modular synth experts KOMA Elektronik have announced the launch of their latest Eurorack module. Designed to connect modular rigs with the outside world, the Sensei can be paired with a wide range of external sensors that allow users to take control of their instrument using light, temperature, touch, movement and more.
Key Features
- Two sensor channels: one continuous, one switch/gate style.
- Built-in analogue processing (offset and gain).
- Re-triggerable envelope mode (saw & inverse saw, gate and inverse gate).
- Works with KOMA’s own range of sensors as well as standard three-pin sensors.
- Perfect for installations, generative patches and sound experiments.
Sensors
There are a range of sensors available that allow the new module to be controlled by a whole host of sources including:
- Light
- Temperature
- Sound
- Touch
- Movement (Accelerometer)
- A Micro Sequencer with three modes
- Softpotentiometer
- Ball Switch
- Button / Jack Input
It’s also possible to connect other third-party or DIY Arduino-based sensors — the Sensei uses a standard three-pin connection. And even without any sensors connected at all, the module can still function as a re-triggerable saw/triangle envelope, a voltage processor with gain and offset, or a simple CV source.
Tech Spec
- Size: 4HP
- Sensor Voltage: +5V (fused for 200mA)
- Output Voltage (Analogue Output): ±10V
- Output Voltage (Ramp / Gate Output): +5V
- CV Input Voltage for Length: 0 – 5V
- Power Draw (without sensor): 47mA +12V, 8mA -12V
Pricing & Availability
The Sensei is available now, priced at €169. A wide variety of sensors are available, and are currently (25 July 2025) subject to an introductory offer with prices ranging from €12 to €26 each — further discounts are available thanks to a selection of curated bundles.
