RME MADIface XT USB 3 audio interfaceThe MADIface XT from RME, the world's first USB 3 audio interface, is now shipping worldwide. It's not just limited to USB 3 though, as the MADIface XT also has a PCI Express port for high-speed connection, and can even be connected to a Thunderbolt port, with the appropriate adaptor (sold separately).
As well as being the first interface in its class, it is also the smallest mobile interface to provide this level of audio I/O, with a possible 394 channels — 196 inputs and 198 outputs. This enormous channel counts is thanks to the use of three pairs of MADI connections, two of which are optical and the third which is coaxial. Each MADI connection carries 64 channels of audio in a single direction at sampling rates up to 48kHz over a theoretical maximum distance of 2km. The MADIface XT can use sampling rates up to 192kHz but the track count falls accordingly, allowing 16 channels per connection at this quality, making for 48 ins and 48 outs at the maximum sampling rate.
The three MADI I/Os are accompanied by four MIDI I/Os, one stereo AES/EBU and a word clock I/O. To bring together the most complete I/O set for live or studio usage, two digitally controlled high-end mic/line preamps, two balanced line outputs and one stereo phones output, all fully 192 kHz capable, are included.
