Nuendo 5 now available

Mixer improved, workflow streamlined

Steinberg have just released version 5 of their powerful post-production suite, Nuendo. The update includes a host of new features and improvements, designed to make the lives of its core user base (people who work with sound for picture, such as dubbing mixers and composers) easier.

A new toolset has been introduced, which has been designed to streamline the process of ADR (Automatic Dialogue Replacement) with improved take and marker handling, and the ability to import EDLs (Edit Decision Lists). Steinberg also say that the latest version of Nuendo has a brand-new video engine, surround panner, and a feature called Clip Packages, which allows you to consolidate multiple audio files for use elsewhere in a project, or even in a different project altogether. Clip Packages can be retrieved via the Media Bay, a built-in file-management tool that Steinberg say has been re-worked.

The mixer has also been given a few enhancements: routing is now more flexible, up- and down-mixing (from stereo to surround, and vice versa) are fully automatable, and waveform read-outs are now visible in the mixer window.

There are too many new features (as well as ‘under the hood’ improvements) to list them all here, but you can find a full list on the Steinberg web site. Available from June, Nuendo 5 is set to sell for £1531.
