Radial Engineering have announced that their founder, Peter Janis, has sadly passed away.
Janis began his audio career in 1976, working in a music shop in Montreal, Canada, alongside touring as both a keyboardist and guitarist. He went on to design audio systems for PA companies and was taken on by TMI who, at the time, were the main shareholder of Fender Musical Instruments. He worked at the company for 10 years before setting up his own marketing business and providing services to the likes of Cabletek, a Canadian cable company — a business he eventually took over and renamed to JP Cabletek Electronics Ltd.
Under the new company, Janis imported a wide range of brands including PreSonus, Audix Microphones, Hafler, Microtech Gefell, Mogami cables, Jensen Transformers, Sonex acoustical products and many others. Determined to extend the business to a global audience, he decided on a company name that could be easily translated into many languages (Radial Engineering), who launched their first product — the Radial JDI — in 1996.
Today, Radial have around 100 employees, with in-house research and development, engineering and production departments. Alongside their hugely successful line of DI boxes, their product range also extends to interfaces, switching systems, 500-series equipment, effects pedals and more. They also offer an extensive range of acoustic treatment products under the Primacoustics brand, and purchased Jensen Transformers in 2014 .
The company have released the following statement:
“Peter’s accomplishments were many and his legacy will live on here at Radial, but what will be remembered more than anything was his passion for friends, music and fellowship. Our industry has lost a true innovator and visionary, and we take solace in knowing that Peter’s legacy lives on here at Radial through the products, passion, dedication and commitment to excellence that he founded the company on.”
