These audio examples accompany my review of the Lulu Tube SDC by BeesNeez Pro Audio.

These mics were a great addition to my studio and I’ve provided a few examples of how I enjoyed using them during the review period. All examples were recorded using the preamps on my Audient ASP8024, with no additional processing.

01_Drum Overheads

This is an example of how the Lulu Tubes sounded as a pair of drum overheads positioned looking down on the kit at a distance of around three feet from the snare drum.

02_Snare Bottom

Not the first application you would think of when auditioning a tube mic but I think this gives a nice example of how the mic reacts to a louder source. This ended up being a much more prominent feature in my drum mix than a snare bottom usually is!

03_Piano

In this example, I used a pair of Lulu Tubes pointing towards the open strings on our studio’s upright piano. The mics were spaced at a distance of around 3.5 feet and about six inches back.

04_Acoustic Guitar 1

With the mic pointing toward the 12th fret at a distance of around six inches, this is how the Lulu Tube fared on my studio’s Martin acoustic guitar, used for a picked style piece.

05_Acoustic Guitar 2

With the mic in the same position. In this example, the acoustic guitar part is loudly strummed. The internal electronics on the Lulus have a nice sweet spot where you can hear a little saturation being introduced to the source.

06_Violin

The violin is a great test for any mic, and here’s how the Lulu Tube sounded at a distance of around 2.5 feet from the instrument, looking down above the player's shoulder.
