Choplifter Max4Live device from Potato Audio

Creates sequenced chop effects across three frequency bands

Potato Audio Choplifter multiband gate sequencer Max4Live device Ableton Live

Potato Audio have announced the launch of Choplifter, a multiband audio gate sequencer designed to create sequenced ‘chops’ across the frequency spectrum. It’s currently available exclusively for Ableton Live as a Max4Live device, but with VST and AU versions planned for a future release.

Described as the spiritual successor to Stutterton — a device released in 2019 by Potato Audio co-founder Chris aka midierror — Choplifter promises to bring a new energy to users’ productions, offering sequenced chops across a signal’s frequency range and boasting deep integration with Ableton Live. Incoming audio is split into three frequency bands, each of which are equipped with an independent gate sequencer and three audio sends in addition to their main mix outputs. Thanks to its tight integration with Live, the device makes it possible to route the output from each layer (or even each individual step) to DAW tracks for further processing. Some onboard shaping is available too, with an ADSR amp envelope, Curve and Speed controls joined by a built-in filter.

Compatibility

Choplifter is currently available as a Max4Live device, requires Max4Live to be installed, is supported in Ableton Live Suite versions 10 and above. The company say that they will be developing VST and AU plug-in versions over the coming months.

Pricing & Availability

Choplifter is available now, priced at £19.96 including VAT. Potato Audio have kindly offered a 30% discount for SOS readers, which can be obtained by entering the code SOSPOTATO30 at checkout.
