Although their product range now includes models aimed at a range of instrument and vocal applications, Earthworks are probably still best known to many for their collection of high-quality drum mics. The latest addition to that particular section of their line-up is the DM6, a new capacitor mic designed specifically for kick drum duties.
Designed with quick setups and rushed soundchecks in mind, the mic promises to deliver a great sound straight out of the box for any levels of performance or styles of music, whilst still responding well to any EQ that the engineer chooses to apply. Along with a tailored frequency response and consistent polar pattern, it also offers a fast transient response that ensures the attack of a kick drum is delivered accurately.
Earthworks say that the DM6 is the perfect complement to their existing drum line-up, and has been designed to work alongside the DM20 snare/tom mics and SR25 overheads as well as offering a great standalone introduction to their product range. For now, it will only be sold separately, and will not be part of their Earthworks Audio Drum Microphone DK7 kit.
Each mic ships with a Triad-Orbit M2-R Ball Mount that allows fast and precise placement, and as with all Earthworks products, is designed, tuned and assembled in-house at their New England facility.
