At this year’s NAMM Show, FSK Audio were demonstrating an innovative new MIDI LFO plug-in that can be used to apply modulation to other plug-in effects and instruments. Designed with speed and playability in mind, ModPlay offers real-time control of any plug-in that supports MIDI Learn, as well as external MIDI hardware.
Described as “a plug-in for your plug-ins”, ModPlay can be paired with a huge range of instruments and effects, and offers an intuitive way to set up and trigger LFO-based modulation. A versatile selection of wave shapes are provided, and the plug-in features four MIDI CC outputs with independent level and modulation amount controls; the LFOs can be re-triggered by incoming MIDI notes or left free-running, and it’s possible to sync the effect to the host DAW’s tempo.
The plug-in has been built with performance in mind, and is designed to encourage users to improvise and ‘play’ the LFO settings. Up to 12 configurations can be stored as Snapshots, and it’s even possible to quickly toggle between them during a performance thanks to keyswitch-style mapping controls.
