Uses MIDI files to generate new musical ideas

Sampleson Predictor generative MIDI chord melody plug-in

Sampleson have announced the launch of a new plug-in and application that’s capable of generating notes, triads and chord voicings from simple clicks. Named Predictor, the software ‘learns’ from existing MIDI files, and has been designed to inspire users and help to break creative blocks.

When users load in a MIDI file, the plug-in analyses a whole host of characteristics such as cadences, note relationships and modulations, and then uses that information to predict new notes and voicings. The generated parts can then be triggered using single key presses, with the overall speed and flow dictated by the user’s timing. Predictor comes with its own integrated MIDI library, and users are free to expand its capabilities by loading in any of their existing MIDI files.

Even those without a MIDI controller keyboard are still able to enjoy the plug-in thanks to a QWERTY playing mode. As its name suggest, the setting allows users to trigger notes from their computer’s keyboard while the plug-in intelligently predicts velocities based on a learned model from a selected MIDI file. Sampleson say that the feature offers a more natural playing experience and compensates for the lack of velocity sensing on standard computer keyboards.

Compatibility

Predictor is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.7 and later. VST3 and AU plug-in versions are available.

Pricing & Availability

Predictor is available now, and is currently (27 April 2025) being offered at an introductory price of $29, reduced from its full cost of $49.
