New Masters course
Edinburgh Napier University have launched a new MA in Sound Production, designed to provide career-focussed postgraduate education that will “prepare students for a range of potential employment situations”. The course offers students the chance to study topics including studio practice, live sound, synthesis and sound for film and TV, and lasts for one year if taken on a full-time basis (alternatively, the course can be taken on a two-year, part-time basis).
Interestingly, university staff are keen to state that their course “differs from many other courses in that it doesn’t focus on working with rock bands”. Instead, students are given “real life” projects, such as troubleshooting and maintenance both in the hardware and software domains. A final project enables the MA students to choose a specialisation, from post-production and film sound to orchestral recording.
For more information, visit the Edinburgh Napier web site, or call the university on +44 (0)131 455 6200. For specific course details, click here.
