Elysia to launch the xmax

Offers flexible Mid-Side compression & soft clipping

Elysia xmax Class-A analogue multiband bus compressor soft clipper

Originally revealed at the NAMM Show 2025, the latest addition to the Elysia family aims to provide users with a high-quality all-in-one bus processor. Aimed at mixing, mastering and live work, the xmax combines a flexible compressor with a simple shelf EQ and a soft clipping circuit derived from the company’s alpha compressor.

The xmax employs Class-A circuitry throughout, and promises to deliver pristine-sounding audio without compromising the integrity of a mix. Incoming stereo signals are encoded into Mid-Side, and the Mid signal is then split into two separate frequency bands. Dedicated threshold and gain controls are provided for the Low, Mid and Sides section signals, and a variable x-freq knob makes it possible to define the crossover point between the Mid and Low bands. The three bands can be linked together thanks to a VariLink function, and there’s a Punch button that increases the amount of compression that’s applied.

The signal then passes through a high-shelf filter, which can be adjusted using a Tone control, before being decoded back to stereo. A Soft Clipper section derived from Elysia’s flagship alpha compressor follows, allowing the xmax’s signal to be pushed harder without the risk of clipping connected A-D converters.

In addition to a 1U rackmount unit, the xmax will also be available as a 500-series module or in Elysia’s own compact qube chassis.
