Native Instruments introduce Traktor Z1 MK2

DJ controller & audio interface revamped

Native Instruments Traktor Z1 MK2 DJ controller audio interface

The latest version of Native Instruments’ popular DJ mixer controller and audio interface has arrived, and has been treated to a design overhaul that promises to combine high performance with an ultra-compact form factor. The Traktor Z1 MK2 builds on the success of its predecessor with a streamlined, intuitive control layout, upgraded hardware and improved audio performance.

The company say that the unit has been designed with all DJs in mind, from those learning to mix to seasoned professionals in need of a portable, yet powerful controller solution. It retains the straightforward layout of the original unit, pairing two channel faders and a crossfader with a set of rotary encoders, but benefits from new OLED displays and a Light Guide system that provide enhanced visual feedback on key information such as parameter names and values, as well as track time and loop status. It also acts as an all-in-one controller and audio device thanks to a built-in 24-bit / 96kHz USB audio interface.

The Z1 MK2 is supplied with a copy of NI’s Traktor Pro 4 DJ software, which includes powerful new features including stem separation and mastering tools from iZotope, a built-in drum machine instrument and a flexible Beatgrids function for seamlessly changing tempos. Thanks to the Traktor software’s stem separation feature, users are provided with individual volume control over a track’s drums, bass, instrument and vocal elements, while hands-on control over key functions such as EQ and effects sends is available directly from the hardware encoders.

Despite being a compact unit, the Traktor Z1 MK2 is said to be a great choice for use cases ranging from home setups and casual events to more advanced modular setups — for those looking to expand beyond the traditional two-deck setup, it can take control of up to four decks in Traktor Pro 4. And last but not least, the bottom of the unit now features a transparent cover with LED lighting, allowing users to customise the colour scheme to suit their setup.

Pricing & Availability

The Traktor Z1 MK2 is available now, priced at $259£214 including VAT / €249, and includes a copy of Traktor Pro 4 software.
