Canadian PA makers Yorkville Sound have just unveiled a portable new subwoofer, called the EXM Mobile Sub. And mobile it certainly is: Yorkville say it's the first-ever sound reinforcement subwoofer to be powered by lithium-ion batteries, which is no mean feat, housing as it does two 8-inch woofers, 150 Watts (peak) of amplification, an integral crossover and even Bluetooth connectivity.
Stereo inputs are present on XLR/jack 'combi' sockets, or on a 3.5mm jack for mobile devices, while high-pass and full-range outputs are on standard XLRs. So the EXM Mobile Sub should integrate with pretty much any rig — but naturally, Yorkville recommend pairing them with their own EXM Mobile series two-way tops. Those speakers can also run on battery power, and can also play back audio via Bluetooth, opening up the enticing possibility of a truly mobile, mains- and cable-free three-way PA system.
