Headphones & studio mic unveiled

Fluid Audio Focus

Fluid Audio are best known for making excellent value monitors, but this week they've announced two unexpected departures: the Axis studio microphone, and the Focus monitoring headphones.

Fluid Audio AxisA large-diaphragm cardioid capacitor mic, the Axis is based around a 34mm capsule with a gold-sputtered diaphragm, all built into a brass cylindrical housing. Fluid tell us that the mic combines low noise with high SPL handling, which they say makes it ideal for drums and brass instruments. It comes with a bespoke shockmount, a pop filter for vocal recording, and a 5m XLR cable, all shipped in a reinforced hardshell case.

The Fluid Audio Axis mic bundle is available now, and priced at just $249/€249.

The other Fluid Audio newcomer is the Focus headphone. This employs a 50mm dynamic driver with neodymium motor, built into a semi-open chassis. Fluid describe its sound as “balanced and articulate”, but they're giving you the option of further refining it by bundling a copy of dSoniq's impressive Realphones headphone correction software.

The Focus headphones and software bundle is even more keenly priced, at just $69/€69. You can find out more about the included software by checking out our in-depth Realphones review here.
