Polyverse have announced the release of Supermodal, a new plug-in that combines a state-variable filter section with an innovative modal filter that models the sonic characteristics of a wide range of resonant bodies. The two filters operate in parallel, and are complemented by a comprehensive modulation system which provides users with a huge range of sound design possibilities.
Filters
Supermodal’s first filter can be moved continuously though low- band- and high-pass modes, and is paired with a Resonance control that is capable of causing the filter to self-oscillate. The instrument’s second filter is rather less conventional, and utilises hundreds of precise band-pass filters to emulate the resonant bodies of a range of instruments, waveforms, and objects.
There are nine models, each of which have three variations, providing a total of 27 different filter modes. The models include noise sources, instruments such as piano and vibraphone, materials including metal and glass, a selection of waveforms, and more, the sonic characteristics of which can all be blended with the incoming audio to create unique new sounds.
Modulation
Users are then able to take advantage of four modulation slots, with a choice of six different modulation sources: Meta Knob, ADSR, Envelope Follower, Sequencer, MIDI/CV Triggers, and Randomizer. Nearly all of the plug-in’s parameters can be modulated, and as both of the filters operate in stereo, it is also possible to apply separate modulation to the left and right signals of each. Even more extreme effects can be achieved thanks to the ability to introduce cross-modulation between slots.

Compatibility
Supermodal is supported on any 64-bit Windows operating system, and Macs running macOS 10.12 and higher. It is available in VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX plug-in formats.
