Alongside their extensive collection of Eurorack modular gear and desktop instruments, Erica Synths have recently introduced a number of standalone desktop effects processors. The latest arrival to the collection, the Echolocator, has been created in collaboration with 112db.com, and offers a range of delay effects that benefit from in-depth hands-on control.
Based around a stereo delay algorithm developed by 112db.com, the Echolocator is said to be a precision tool that provides detailed manual control over its parameters. It’s been designed with live performances in mind, and comes packed with large top-panel controls that aim to help users ‘feel’ their way though a performance, shaping the character of the effect’s delay response on the fly. Along with its core delay parameters, the Echolocator is equipped with an onboard filter and some modulation capabilities, and also boasts reverb and pitch-shifting functions. As well as the set of top-panel controls, the unit features full MIDI implementation, with all of its parameters capable of responding to incoming CC messages.
As for connectivity, all of the Echolocator’s audio I/O is handled by four quarter-inch TRS sockets, with a fifth providing an input for a user-configurable footswitch. MIDI I/O is provided by a pair of five-pin DIN connectors, and the unit can be powered from an external 12V DC supply. There’s also a USB port that can be used to export presets to a computer — the device comes loaded with 30 factory presets and space for 70 additional user patches.
