Warm Audio's latest offering is a careful hardware re-creation of the most renowned tube equaliser in studio history — and it's set to cost much less than you might imagine. Not only does the look and feel of the EQP-WA match the classic Pultec unit, but, according to its makers, the sonic quality has been carefully considered by using top-end components such as CineMag transformers and premium grade vacuum tubes.
The fully discrete Tube EQ is designed to pull incredibly detailed musical transients from any track. Warm Audio are saying that this can bring a "sonic brilliance and lustre" to your final mixes that’s nearly impossible to achieve inside-the-box.
The original Pultec design offered a unique style of EQ curve, and a character not found on other types of equalisers, and that's why meticulous attention has been made to remodelling and faithfully reproducing the original sound whilst maintaining the Warm Audio philosophy of affordability, available to everyone.
We can't wait to get our hands on a unit for review. If the EQP-WA does what its makers claim, this could be a very attractive option for budget conscious gear-lovers.
The new EQ is slated for a February release and will cost £649 including VAT. We'll try and get a better look at it at the upcoming NAMM show in Anaheim later this month, so keep an eye out for more. Until then, here's a list of features, provided by UK distributor Nova Distribution.
