Adam A5 & Sub 7

Mini multimedia monitor for the masses
We thought studio monitor designers Adam were going large and staying large, following the announcement of their giant S7A mkII main monitors last year; but it seems this is not the case.

Their latest release, the A5, is the smallest in the range: an active monitor with two 25-watt amps powering a 5.5-inch woofer and one of Adam’s trademark ART ribbon tweeters. Adam say that the A5 has a frequency response of 55Hz to 35kHz (±3dB) and a pair of them can deliver SPLs of 110dB at a distance of one metre.

The power switch and volume control are on the front face of the A5 (so you don’t have to fumble around the back of them), with connections and EQ-adjustment knobs on the back panel. Interestingly, there’s a ‘Stereolink’ feature that allows two monitors to be linked, meaning you can control both of their levels with just one volume knob, making level balancing easy.

To compliment the A5, Adam have announced the Sub 7, a subwoofer that they say is capable of handling frequencies as low as 30Hz. However, further details of the Sub 7 were sketchy at the time of writing, so keep your eyes on the Adam web site for the latest information.
