Arturia have today released the latest version of their creative effects plug-in bundle, FX Collection 4. As well as adding four new titles to the collection, the company have also introduced a number of enhancements and improvements to the existing line-up, an extended selection of presets and a number of optimisations and bug fixes.
New Additions
Four new plug-ins have been added in FX Collection 4, bringing the total number of processors included to 30. Additionally, the bundle also now includes over 1000 presets.
The first of the new effects is Rotary CLS-222, a software recreation of the Dynacord CLS-222, a unit widely considered to be the finest Leslie rotary speaker simulation device ever created. This plug-in equivalent features a simulated valve preamp stage, and offers adjustable bass and treble rotor speeds that boast an extended range over the hardware equivalent. Distance controls are provided in order to emphasise the rotor shape, and a visualiser display is included to offer real-time feedback on the movement of the sound.
Arturia’s dual-engine distortion plug-in, Dist Coldfire, has also been added, bringing with it a range of effects that range from subtle valve-style saturation to “unrestrained sonic destruction”, and everything between! a total of 11 analogue and digital algorithms are included, and a hidden Advanced panel provides keen sound designers with a wealth of controls to customise their distorted tones. A versatile selection of routing options are provided, too, with the plug-in offering Serial, Parallel, Stereo, Mid/Side and Band Split operation modes.
Filter MS-20 then delivers a stereo filter and distortion effect based on the gritty-sounding filter found in Korg’s MS-20 synthesizer. Modelled using the company’s TAE technology, the plug-in promises to provide an authentic recreation of the iconic circuit, and offers a range of classic sounds thanks to the resonant low- and high-pass filter modes. A Master Cutoff parameter allows for band-pass-style functionality, and stereo offset settings make it possible to create wider filtered sounds. Output mix and level controls are included, and the plug-in is also equipped with an envelope follower and function generator.
Finally, Rev LX-24 provides an enhanced virtual recreation of Lexicon’s legendary 224 algorithmic reverb unit. Eight algorithms are present, with the plug-in’s GUI replicating the look of the original unit’s remote panel. 12- and 24-bit converter emulations offer a range of vintage-inspired sound characters, whilst a Modern mode also offers a newer, cleaner sound. Rev LX-24 comes loaded with 100 presets designed for use with a variety of sounds sources that range from vocal and instrument sounds, as well as a number of more extreme settings aimed at abstract sound design applications.
Product & Performance Updates
As well as introducing new effects, the latest version of FX collection also brings with it a selection of updates and enhancements for the existing plug-ins. Bus Force has been updated with a new overdrive gain compensation feature, Efx Fragments sees some modulation workflow improvements and a range of new presets, and oversampling options have been added to Rev Spring-636 and Bus Force.
Accessibility features have been upgraded, with the bundle now offering real-time text-to-speech feedback on presets, parameters and values. Compatibility has also been improved, with full NKS VST3 support introduced, and native Apple Silicon support implemented for AAX plug-in versions.
Compatibility
FX Collection 4 is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 and higher. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available. NKS support is also provided, allowing for advanced integration with Native Instruments’ range of hardware controllers.
Pricing & Availability
FX Collection 4 is available now, and is currently (1 June 2023) being offered for €299, reduced from its full cost of €499.
