FBT's HiMaxx series of active and passive speakers, widely regarded as one of best-sounding plastic-housed systems around, gains two new models this month: the two-way, bi-amped 15-inch HiMaxx 60a and the 18-inch, band-pass, active subwoofer, the HiMaxx 100Sa.
Both feature B&C designed and manufactured speakers, with bigger neodymium magnets and enhanced ventilation, which apparently delivers an impressive 2dB reduction in power compression. The speakers also feature extra-rigid cones for better suspension linearity and reduced distortion. The compression drivers used in the HiMaxx 60a also feature shorting copper caps for extended, crystal-clear HF response, say UK distributors Proel.
The polypropylene-housed HiMaxx 60a features a 700W RMS Class-D amplifier for the woofer and a 200W Class-G power amp driving the HF compression driver. It also boasts a newly designed control panel with one Gain/Volume pot, XLR/Jack input, XLR link output, three-band EQ, Mic/Line switch, auxiliary RCA input with separate volume control, three status LEDs and a ground-lift switch.
The HiMaxx 100Sa is an 18-inch, band-pass, active subwoofer housed in 18mm birch plywood, rather than polypropylene. Equipped with a 900W, PWM Class-D power amplifier and switched-mode power supply, the HiMaxx 100Sa is compact and lightweight, Proel say. Stereo connection and a high-pass filter are also fitted. The special band-pass acoustic loading increases efficiency and maximum SPL.
The prices are £1199 for the HiMaxx 60a and £1249 for the HiMaxx100Sa.
