UK Music Producers Guild to host annual event
The Music Producers Guild (MPG) have announced that they will hold an annual awards ceremony to recognise the contribution that producers, engineers, mixers, re-mixers and programmers make to the music industry. Categories will include Best Recording Facility, Best Mastering Engineer, Best Newcomer and Unsung Hero, the winner of which the MPG say could be anyone from a runner to a studio receptionist.

The awards will take place at the Café de Paris in London on the 12th February 2009, and should attract some high-profile guests. The full line-up of award categories has not been announced yet, although it’s expected in the few weeks.

Explaining the impetus behind the launch of the awards, MPG Chairman Mike Howlett commented, “For too long, recording professionals have been overlooked despite the sterling work they do for the UK music industry. We feel they should be championed — not just to give them recognition but also to inspire the next generation of 100,000 music students in the UK who will be the producers and engineers of the future”.

In related news, the MPG and Sound On Sound will be holding a seminar explaining the so-called 'Loudness Wars', at the SRT Show in London on Saturday June 14th. For more information, and to book tickets, click here.
