Plugin Alliance and Native Instruments have announced the launch of a new plug-in that kits DAW users out with an emulation of a popular hardware EQ. Developed in collaboration with Brainworx, Mäag Audio EQ4 MS captures the sound of Mäag’s EQ4M and introduces some handy additional features.
Brainworx say that they worked closely with Mäag when developing the new plug-in, ensuring that it would deliver the most accurate emulation of the hardware possible. As with the physical unit, EQ4 MS features a six-band design that includes the famed Air Band, a unique-sounding high-frequency boost renowned for its ability to emphasise vocals, instruments and mixes without introducing any ‘harshness’.
Although the plug-in has been designed to replicate the sound of the original hardware, it boasts an extended set of controls and introduces some features that are not present in the EQ4M. All of the bell filters benefit from an extended bandwidth and additional centre frequencies, and there’s a Mid-Side processing mode in addition to the standard stereo operation. Mono-Maker and Stereo Width parameters are also included, and there’s some saturation on offer thanks to a variable Total Harmonic Distortion control.
Compatibility
Mäag Audio EQ4 MS is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 12 or higher. VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
Pricing & Availability
Mäag Audio EQ4 MS is available now, and is being offered at an introductory price of $49.99 until 9 February 2025, when it will increase to its full price of $249.
