AES 2014: Phoenix Audio Nice DI/500 (Video)

Class A 500-series DI module with Tilt EQ

At the recent AES convention in LA, we checked out the Phoenix Audio Nice DI/500 — an API 500-series compatible direct input channel and Tilt EQ processor for guitar, keyboard and all line-level sources. This 500-series DI will sit alongside the very popular DRS1R/500 mic pre amp DRS-EQ/500 4-band EQ and the N90-DRC/500 compressor/Gate.

The Phoenix Nice DI/500 is based on our very popular rack-mount Nice DI unit and is a Class A discrete unit with our fabled custom wound transformer, the DI has a 10 megaohm input load giving it the ability to capture all frequencies and give a full sounding tone, claim its makers. The Nice DI/500 has a DI input, thru and a switch to accept balanced line level.

The tilt control is based on the 1970’s concept of a tilt EQ, and Phoenix Audio have re-designed this to offer a unique 3 way tilt compared to the usual 1 tilt point. These tilt points are 800hz, 1.2khz & 2.2khz. The module also has a sweepable tone control feature which makes the Tilt EQ either darker or brighter, but unlike a regular tone control this will effect both the LF & HF frequencies.
