Study with Mike Senior in top studios!
Cambridge Music Technology have announced their second series of intensive one‑day studio courses, which will be taking place not only in Cambridge, but also at two of London’s most celebrated commercial studios: Strongroom (www.strongroom.com) and Livingston (www.livingstonstudios.co.uk).
Devised and hosted by regular SOS author Mike Senior, the workshops draw on his extensive research on the world’s top producers, showing how their tricks and techniques can be applied in the project studio.
The most popular topics from the first series of courses (Mixing Secrets For The Small Studio and Vocal Production: Competing With The Pros) have been updated and expanded for the new season, and two new titles have also been added to the roster.
The first, Loudness In Practice, sees Mike tackle head‑on the contentious issue of CD loudness maximisation, revealing the pros and cons of different specialist processing techniques that promise to boost perceived volume.
The second new workshop, One‑take Band Recording On A Budget, has been designed for musicians who are fed up spending hours overdubbing and mixing in the studio, and who would prefer to capture the live energy of their performance in one go instead. This approach has a long and honourable history in high‑end studios, but Mike has now adapted the same principles for small‑studio use.
With the help of live demonstrations, he will explain (amongst other things) how to record entirely without headphones, and how you can creatively use recorded spill to simplify the mixing process.
CMT’s courses will run on Saturdays beginning in October, and prices range from £160 to £195 per person for each workshop. For more information, or to enrol, visit the CMT web site.
