The latest addition to Kilohearts’ extensive collection of free plug-ins has arrived, kitting users out with a simple and intuitive dynamics processor.
The company say that Clipper has been designed to “bring the power of razor-sharp, per-sample clipping to the Kilohearts Ecosystem”, and is capable of everything from subtle peak trimming to all-out distortion. It features a central waveform display with a horizontal line that can be used to set the threshold, while a row of three parameters make it possible to fine-tune the processing. In Gain and Out Gain dials do exactly as you’d expect, offering adjustment of the signal level before and after processing has taken place, while a Knee control softens the knee of the clipping curve in an effort to reduce the amount of high-frequency artefacts caused by hard clipping.
As with all plug-ins in the Kilohearts Ecosystem, Clipper can be used as a conventional DAW plug-in, or as a Snapin processor in the company’s Phase Plant, Multipass and Snap Heap modular hosts.
