The legendary Ludwig company, who celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2009, have launched a new Centennial Series of maple drums that will have instant appeal to John Bonham fans, as well as all lovers of big bass drums.
class="bodyf">Made in Taiwan and thus available around the mid-price range, the Centennial Series drums have all-North American maple shells with six-ply hanging toms and floor toms, with bass drums and snares made from eight plies. Shells are fitted with Ludwig Classic Micro lugs and triple-flanged hoops with Vibra-band mounting for the toms. Bass drums are extra deep for maximum punch and come in 20 x 20-inch, 22 x 20-inch and a whopping 24 x 20-inch sizes. The Centennial Core kit features a choice of bass drum size with a 12 x 8-inch tom, a 16 x 14-inch floor tom and a 14 x 6-inch snare drum, but can be expanded from a range of component sizes. These include 8-inch to 14-inch hanging toms, 14-inch to 18-inch floor toms and two additional bronze snare drums in 13 x 6.5-inch and 14 x 6.5-inch sizes. Finishes include transparent high gloss and Ludwig's new Superflake Sparkle lacquers. And Bonham fans need look no further than the Green Superflake Sparkle, which not only sounds awesome but also looks it too.
