Press Release: International music company, Audio Network is delighted to announce that Philip Sheppard is to perform at the Audio Network sponsored event The Austin Jump-Off on March 12th 2014 during South By Southwest, the largest music, film and interactive conference in the world. Philip is a prolific film and theatre composer, virtuoso cellist and pioneer of the electric cello. The event is a collaboration with Black Magnetic Records (owned by internationally renowned Music Supervisor PJ Bloom), The Cellar Music, a premier independent publishing and marketing company and CandyShop Management, a leading independent artist management firm.
Philip is one of Audio Network’s 500 composers and has a diverse repertoire working with rock artists, feature films and stage works. In addition he produced the handover sequence in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and re-scored and recorded all 205 of the world’s National Anthems (with the London Philharmonic Orchestra) for the London 2012 Olympics.
The Austin Jump-Off takes place at Maggie Mae’s (323 Eth Street, Austin) from 11.30am – 5.00pm and will feature live music and performances organized by Candyshop Management, The Cellar Music and Black Magnetic. Philip’s 12.00pm performance will be an interactive set during which he will show the audience how he builds up a track before performing it live.
Philip describes his set: “I am going to be using an 18th century English cello and 21st century guitar technology to build an improvised symphony on stage. My set will range from 15th century dance music, through Appalachian songs to hardcore experimental music. Using horsehair, gut strings and harmonics alone I will attempt to prove that the oldest technology is sometimes the best… whether impersonating Jimi Hendrix's guitar tone or building an orchestral piece from scratch. I'll also incorporate sounds I've devised for songs I've worked on with artists as diverse as David Bowie, Jeff Buckley and Pretty Lights.”
Ali Johnson, Global Head of Music, Audio Network comments; “We are very excited to be part of this showcase with PJ Bloom and Bridget O’Gara Bloom as its going to be an amazing event. When discussing who would be the perfect fit for our performance Philip was our obvious choice as he is a fantastically talented composer who has created some great work for us recently and we know that his live set will be very interesting to see, and hear.”
Philip has composed and conducted three orchestral albums for Audio Network, all recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.
