Described as a ceremonial reverb, the latest creation from independent developers Fors is said to be capable of turning even the smallest of sounds into a “wash of shimmering textures”. Sala has been designed with huge, ambient spaces in mind, but is also capable of delivering closer, more focused-sounding reverbs.
Sala sports a simple and stripped-back GUI that presents users with just five controls: Size, Decay, Tone, Dry/Wet and Zoom. For most users, the first four will probably need little explaining, offering a familiar way to shape the perceived size of the reverb, apply some basic tonal control and govern the balance between processed and unprocessed signals. The slightly less obvious Zoom control, though, relates to the plug-in’s pre-diffusion stage, and is described by Fors as working in a similar way to zooming in on details with a camera. Higher Zoom values will result in an up-close and personal sound, while lower values will cause source material to gradually become more ‘out of focus’ as the ambience increases.
Compatibility
Sala is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.13 and above. VST3, AU and CLAP plug-in versions are available.
