Universal Audio unveil the Apollo E Series

Dante peripherals take Unison preamps to the stage

Universal Audio have announced the launch of the Apollo E Series, which comprises a pair of new Dante-equipped peripherals that have been designed to bring the power of the company’s renowned Unison preamps from the studio to the stage. The Apollo e1x comes equipped with a single Unison preamp, while the Apollo e2m offers line-level I/O and stereo headphone monitoring; both can be used alongside UA’s Apollo x16D interface, or independently as part of any Dante network.

First up is the Apollo e1x Remote-controllable Unison Preamp, which as its name suggests, comes loaded with one of UA’s renowned Unison mic/line preamps. It allows those working with Dante networks to incorporate authentic emulations of classic preamps from the likes of API, Avalon, Manley, Neve, SSL and more, and it’s possible to combine multiple units to handle larger input counts. The Apollo e1x features Power over Ethernet (PoE), and includes hardware that can be used to mount it to a mic stand or fix multiple units together.

The second device in the new E Series line-up is the Apollo e2m Stereo Headphone Amp and Line Interface, which has been designed to add personal monitoring and line-level I/O to Dante networks. The unit sports a large top-panel level control along with a pair of headphone outputs, while four rear-panel quarter-inch TRS connectors provide two line-level inputs and outputs. As well as handling headphones and IEMs, the I/O means that the e2m can also be used to feed powered monitors, or incorporate external outboard gear, instruments and playback devices. Again, the unit uses PoE and boasts a built-in mic stand mount.

"The Apollo x16D and new Apollo E Series are milestones for us. Many Apollo users have been asking to be able to use real-time UAD plug-ins with Dante-networked systems, both in live sound applications and in recording studios. The Apollo x16D and Apollo E Series peripherals make it easy." - Bill Putnam Jr., CEO, Universal Audio
