Notwithstanding the news that Hamer (part of the Kaman empire) have been bought by Fender, the show very much goes on, according to UK distributor Go To Guitars who, as if to prove the point, have announced a clutch of new models.
The newcomers are headed by the US-made Talladega. Designed by Hamer guru Jol Dantzig, the Talladega features a 25.5-inch scale hand-carved maple neck with a classic ’56 V shape, and a nut width of 1.65 inches. The neck, with its quarter-sawn rosewood fingerboard, provides “articulate highs”, and the chambered mahogany body “delivers balanced tone”. The string-through-body sustain block, meanwhile, couples directly for maximum sustain and quick response to hand technique, say Go To. Other features include a hand-carved, figured maple top, bound with Italian ivoroid and proprietary Double-D single-coil pickups created by Seymour Duncan and Jol Dantzig, and built in the Duncan custom shop. A versatile four-way selector switch gives the Talladega “an amazing range of voices”. No price was quoted for this model.
Definitely in the affordable as well as desirable camp, however, are several new introductions to Hamer’s really rather impressive XT series. For example, the popular SATF Flame Top range has been expanded to include the SATFW and the SATHB P90. The former comes in a dark Cherry Burst over a flame top, and is the first in the range to feature the award-winning Wilkinson Tremolo as well as the Seymour Duncan-designed humbucking pickups found on all SATFs. The good news is that it is going to sell for around £325, including a padded gig bag.
The SAPTF 90 HB, on the other hand, features two Seymour Duncan-designed pickups and combines Hamer’s most popular shape with their most popular finish. This one has an even keener price of just £259, also including a gig bag.
Finally, while we’re on about Hamers, left-handers will be thrilled to learn that someone cares — and quite a lot, it appears — as left-handed Hamers have been announced in the following models: Californian 3T in Cherry Burst, SAT2 in Black, SATF Honey Burst, SATQ Quilt Top Honey Burst. The SATF and SATQ are also available in Honey Burst with full-spec American Seymour Duncans, Standard in Black, Standard in Natural Korina with full-spec American Seymour Duncan pickups, Vector in Black, and the SFB bass in Black Cherry!
