The RNDI Active Transformer Direct Interface has proved to be a popular addition to Rupert Neve Designs’ product range, with tens of thousands of channels shipped since its introduction in 2015. Two- and eight-channel models have since followed, and now, the line-up has gained an additional single-channel unit that comes houses in a compact, pedalboard-friendly enclosure.
The new RNDI-M has been designed for electric guitar and basses, synthesizers, keyboards, piezo pickups and just about any other instrument-level source. It features discrete, Class-A circuitry that’s built around RND’s custom transformers, which the company say helps to deliver outstanding sonic performance and a strikingly natural sound. As you’d expect, its technical performance is excellent, with a frequency response extending from below 5Hz to beyond 90kHz. It can handle input levels up to +20.5dBu, with the low-impedance, transformer-coupled output stage capable of driving long cable runs with minimal loss. It’s been built to last, too, with its rugged steel chassis promising to stand up to a lifetime of use on stage and in the studio.
“The heart of our RNDI circuit is its custom-designed output transformer, which adds musically relevant harmonics that enhance the richness of the original signal and provide a distinctly musical response. Coupled with giant headroom, wide bandwidth and unquestionable reliability, the RNDI has found its place in studios and on stages all over the world. By streamlining its feature set and housing the electronics in a rugged and more compact chassis, the RNDI-M fits neatly into any space and will allow even more musicians and engineers to tap into the uncompromised sonic power and vibrancy of a Rupert Neve Designs DI.” - Rupert Neve Designs
