LMAs to celebrate brightest talent in production music industry

The perception that library music is a second-class option has been around for years. For some, the term is somehow synonymous with lift music, but this really couldn’t be further from the truth. Take a moment to explore the web site of one of the larger library music companies, for instance, and you’ll find that strings for that orchestral album were recorded in Abbey Road with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. That Americana album was recorded in Nashville with the same producers that work with Grammy award-winning artists.

The libraries are delivering real quality, and are proud to show the world what they have to offer. It’s in response to this that this year we’re seeing the launch of the Library Music Awards — and SOS are delighted to be media sponsors.

The Library Music Awards are an opportunity for music libraries to show off some of their best work and celebrate the work of their composers. Some of the best composers in the world are writing library music. For most, it provides a stable income in a job where work can be sporadic and unpredictable. For some, library music provides a very healthy income and affords a comfortable lifestyle, writing interesting and contrasting music.

There will be a range of awards up for grabs, and music can be entered into any of 12 categories. The winners will be decided by a panel of highly experienced judges including Nitin Sawhney, AIR Edel music supervisor Matt Biffa, recording and mix engineer Jake Jackson and SOS’s very own Mix Review columnist Mike Senior

As well as the awards ceremony, there will be a day of demonstrations, Q&A and talks for composers called ‘Tune Up’. Speakers will include Spitfire Audio, Jake Jackson and a panel of top composers, and there will be a live link-up to a remote string orchestra recording session. The event will take place at BAFTA Piccadilly in London on October 23rd, with tickets available from August 18th. Everyone purchasing a ticket in the first week will also be automatically entered into a draw to win a Sontronics Orpheus capacitor mic. Cheaper early-bird tickets will also be available, so book early to avoid disappointment! You can buy tickets from next Friday, 29th August.
